I'm about to step into a field
Ready to play the game
The game whose rules do not exist
No reason for anything, no logic remain
I look into each players eyes and saw in them what I feel
The fear, the anxiety, the focus within
Feeling nothing to gain from the game
But to lose every control attained
As soon as it began, the ruthlessness followed
With no rules to govern, only pain remained
With battered hearts and minds we pursue to win
Win what we ask ourselves in this crazy game we play?
We concentrate on all the power, the glory of the win
Often, we tend to forget what's between
The courage to stand up and play it clean
Or to help someone else on your way to win
We are free to choose whatever we desire
To be a player, a bystander, or fan
Each role has its worth, each has something to attain
Each has its own view of success, though nothing gained without pain
Despite all the hurdles, the challenges met
We go across the finish line and measure success
Is it still the goal to win when on our way we lose
The friends, the family, the dignity just for the ego boost
Should we forfeit now, the challenges ahead
Should we bring ourselves to the field, play the game with the goal of self worth in mind
Not the end in mind but grace of the fight
Play it clean, take a chance, you'll come out alright
No one really wins the proverbial price
Its within ourselves we can see, if we took a bite only enough from our own slice
No cheating, no stabbing, no pushing aside
Hold that hand out to others beside
Find the end together, smile with pride
You found your way to the end of the game
Without losing your soul from the this life game we play
