Blinders

It doesn't take a genius, does it to see if a person is attracted to you or not? But it does take some effort to widen your view and be open to them.

I was chennel surfing in the middle of the night, as always, trying to find a show mundane enough to make me fall asleep. I chanced on an Oprah show. This was Saturday night, mind you and I thought it odd. I don't think I was on the Oxygen channel but the point is, I think I was meant to see this portion of the show.

At that moment, Oprah was interviewing Jennifer Aniston asking her questions about a recent project with Glamour Magazine called "Reel Moments." It's a series of short films directed and written by women in Holywood based on stories women wrote in for Glamour. The stories are about a pivotal moment in their lives that make them proud to be a woman.

They discussed 3 stories. First Aniston's directorial debute, titled Room 10. Then by Bryce Dallas Howard's directorial debute (Ron Howard's daughter), titled Glamour. Lastly was a short film directed by commedian Carol Leifer, titled Blinders.

This last one hit me, and hit me hard.

Blinders is the story about a woman looking for love in the big city. Carol
says she loved the humor in the story. "What I loved about it was I have so
many girlfriends who are single who complain about never meeting anybody,
and they're smart and attractive and successful," Carol says. "And then you
spend an afternoon with them and you see that people are flirting with them
left and right and they're just not picking it up. They're just not open to it."

Wow, story of my life it seems. I guess I'm just not open to the flirting. I always attribute it to lack of experience, which may contribute to my lack of romantic relationships. I guess I just need to be brave. Turn a new leaf and try to be open to what's out there. Just writing it makes me nervous. I hate rejection, I suppose everyone does. But I really need to get my blinders off lest risk being alone for the rest of my life.
