The Movie

We are all sitting back laid back
The couch oh so comfy and friendly
Time to watch our lives once more
To hit play and see the movie roll
Selecting which scenes to see
Reminiscing the settings and sensing everything
Reverting back to those good 'ole days
Back when we know absolutely nothing
Yet insisting we knew it all it seems

It doesn't take much to rewind to the past
To look back on times and the shadows it cast
The movements now so comical
As I watch the moments as they pass

To close-up on those frames and see the tears roll up my face
Those times when I can point where my heart actually breaks
Fastforward on these painful oh so hurtful times
The animated gestures and expressive facial features
Now healed enough to laugh it off

Wouldn't it be great to pause it for a while
Enjoy the laughter and the worthwhile spent time
And watch that big brown eyes dance as I laugh
Freeze the time to see exactly when the lines on my face was cast

Rewind back to the innocent days
When driving down the road didn't mean delays
No Medians separating you and I
On the highway we just cruise on by

Not knowing when to take off our foot from the gas
Slow down the time where I made those decisions
To make that right instead of crossing the busy main intersection
The chaotic scene no longer frustrating
Zoom out to see the impending danger waiting

We sit pondering over all the scenes
The story being told as we act out our parts
No take two's or someone screaming "CUT!"
No rehearsals for this life's epic movie
Money spent all relative
Energy much steeper than that of a make believe tragedy

We get off our couches to join in the movie making party
Participating in every scene
I thought we were so majestic and all knowing
Yet we can only see what's around us
No button to push to zoom out fast

We think we ought to be nominated
An oscar in our hands and golden globes for our shelves
The colors of our lives so pretty
Edited out all those black, blue, and dreary

Wouldn't it be great if we could sit this scene out
To look at it not from inside out
Too good to be true...this scene I painted for you
We are snatched back to the big screen
Continue with the scene
The movie making
Back to reality here we are

Nothing to end it as of yet
No credits to roll
Boy, they pulled that plug all of a sudden
Time's no longer bankrollin'
Yet so many Thank You's need to be said
No more time, it's all ended
I'm scrambling to finish what I've started
Now I'm really back on the couch
Sitting to see the finished product
Rewind, fastforward and back
Pause it, slow it...I can do all that
This movie of mine...I ought to make it what I want it
