fly by butterfly

Today is 'All Saints Day. For catholics, it means the time to honor the saints. As for tomorrow, its old souls day, where in turn we honor our loved ones who have gone before us. It's interesting to find myself reading Anne Rice's book (vampire chronicles) during this time of year. I just find it interesting is all...though you, my reading might not. Anyway, as usual it is full of sexual innuendoes and such. Her earlier works I found to be better written than what I am currently reading though my taste in books may have changed over time. The pace is different as well. I finished reading Angels and Demons (same writer as the da Vinci's Code) and the writings are far different from each other that getting used to Anne Rice's way of writing took a bit of time. I'm smooth sailing now but the first 3 chapters were a bit painful.

Speaking of reading, today was my first day of work. My gosh, the amount of reading I had to do is unbelievable. Its not like I can just browse and skim through. I have quizzes to boot. I think I had a mental shutdown at one point today that I read a simple page about 3 times before it registered in my head what I was reading. It was a daunting task. I have 2 think binders to read and then an online test to take. Not to mention I have to study for 3 days in preparation for yet another test. By golly. I'm gonna be spent this week. I feel like I'm taking a crash course at school and cramming for a big exam. And I'm just learning that I totally forgot a conversation I had with my friend Matt and is now recapping it for me. I just said that I feel like Homer Simpson where information is literally being taken out of my brain to make room for new information. How sad. *sigh* Anyway, I managed to read as much as I can for the day and found it odd that I still wanted to read my Anne Rice book as I ride the metro back to my car.

Anyway, I didn't get to go trick or treating this weekend. Though I found it sad as well that the kids are left to go to the mall to trick or treat since its no longer safe to do so these days. Interesting enough, some have ingeniously creating another form of holloween festivities such as "trunk-o-treating" where a whole bunch of trusted parents open up their trunks lined up at a designated parking lot for the kids to go hopping by and get their treats. I ponder this though, what has happened to our world? Last Saturday as I sat at Byrd stadium and amidst all the chaos and the loud cheers, there few a white butterfly. Honestly, I haven't seen a butterfly for quite sometime and it amazes me that it flies around an ever so crazy world probably more confused as I would in a place so foreign to me. I guess if a butterfly can go roam the sea of humans and with no plant life insight, there is always room for good to come out and alternatives to be created for the safety of our children and for all of us as well. I didn't think I would enjoy the butterfly sight as much as I thought since I just finished watching "You've Got Mail" where "shopgirl" played by Meg Ryan. In the movie, her character described an incident where she saw a butterfly hop onto the train and get off somewhere else. I didn't think it possible but I was proven wrong. But the story has rejuvenate my optimism that there is good out there amidst all the bad and given the chance, it will prevail. So, here's to the butterfly ... let her fly on, just as our souls fly into the arms of God when we pass. Lets remember all those who have come before us and pray that one day, we would fly with the butterflies and the rest of the souls into the heavenly arms of our Father.
