the little things

it's the little things that count doesn't it? when you smile at someone. or perhaps when you go about your business and you remember to call and say HI to a person you haven't talked to in awhile. I like doing that. Just trying to stay in touch however far apart it may have been, it's good to reconnect. Although sometimes I find myself asking why I even bother. I mean, there are just those people who you just no longer connect with. Do we just sit back, and let it go? I really have no answer. No solution. I guess my point is, it's good to try and find the good in people. Something that brings you to a level of respect and understanding. Maybe if we try and do that in our everyday lives, the bigger problems of the world would be greatly reduced. Is that an optimistic thought or what? Or maybe it's naive. Either way, it's a great thought. Maybe one to fall under a utopian world where everything is great. Unfortunately, ours is far from perfect. But if we think of all the awful things, we'll go mad. Stark raving mad. I think that's why I do not read the newspaper as much. I skim through the headlines just to see how things are. It depresses me that most of the articles on the news are just bad. Where is the silver lining? That's really how I try and approaching things but sometimes it's hard. Maybe there's a glimmer of silver in a situation but there's always something. However, we need to be careful of negating the lessons learned of these situations. Ok, I'm talking in general. I guess I just feel that there's so much hate and evil in the world, that there's no need to mention specifics. I think we know well too much about our surroundings that I need not specify anything to make a point.

Well, that's my thought for the day...

words may speak of wonderful things
or perhaps such dreadful offerings

but silence
silence says things beyond what words can
oh the gift of listening without the spoken word
without ever hearing, but sensing each intent

in between the spoken words
reverberates even more than it describes
it's the silence that fills it
and tells all the reasons why

silence keeps us in touch with ourselves
and even beyond
the connection of a look, a smile, and touch
speaks more and louder than ever, that's for sure

it goes beyond a hello
a look in the eye
brush of an elbow
and a coy smile that comes
says more than one can speak

as we lay on the grass looking into the nite sky
the silent touch of your hands on mine
as we hear the crickets sing
shows the love shared between

oh the meaning words cannot describe
transcends the present time
into oblivion we project
the unspoken words of love, closeness, emotion
is what truly silence brings
